Improve Your Smile with Dental Crowns
Our Toronto Dentists Help Protect Weakened Teeth
Damaged teeth can be painful and may change the appearance of your smile. Crowns help restore the function, shape, and appearance of your teeth. While crowns are often used after a root canal, they can also be used to help protect a large filling or a broken tooth.
Crowns are made from various materials, including gold, composite materials, porcelain (or ceramic) and porcelain-fused-to-metal. Your dentist will determine which one is best for you. Many patients prefer porcelain crowns because they offer a natural look.
At Sheridan Cyrus Dentistry, our dental services are designed to meet your needs comfortably and efficiently. Whether you need crowns to improve the look of your teeth and smile or protect them from large cavities and tooth loss, we are here to help. Dr. Cyrus and his team offer personalized attention and high-quality care to help you maintain a healthy and happy smile.

What Are Crowns?
Crowns are hollow, artificial teeth (much like caps) that cover up a damaged or decayed tooth. A crown will not only protect your tooth from further damage, but it can also improve its appearance. Sometimes crowns are necessary for functions such as chew correctly, while at other times, crowns are used for cosmetic purposes like covering misshapen or discoloured teeth. Once a crown is in place, it will look similar to a natural tooth, and no one will know you have one!
How Porcelain Crown Procedures Work
Crowns are fitted in the dental office using a 5-step procedure:
1. A local anaesthetic is applied to numb the area.
2. The dentist files down the existing tooth that is being restored to make room for the crown.
3. An impression is taken of your tooth so that a custom crown can be created.
4. While you wait for your custom crown to be made, you will have a temporary crown placed over your tooth. This protects your tooth but is not intended for long-term use.
5. When your final crown is ready, the temporary crown is removed and replaced by the final crown. You will be tested to make sure the crown is the right shape, fit and comfortable to chew with. Then, it is cemented to be permanently affixed to your tooth.
Crowns are strong, and they can last ten years or more as long as you maintain them. Your crown must be checked during regular appointments.
